The Sliteye shark, Loxodon macrorhinus MÜLLER & HENLE, 1839, like the modern Hemipristis elongata is currently only found in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean. Judging from its teeth the fossil Loxodon may have been slightly larger than its modern counterpart which reaches slightly less than a meter in length. It is an uncommon element in the Pungo River formation.
